SOUND ENGINEER WORK

Laurie has been working as a freelance sound engineer in various venues, music festivals and studios for over seven years. He’s worked in most major venues in Scotland's capital, working with big name artists including - Foals, Alt J, Benjamin Francis Leftwich, Gia Margeret, Deafheaven, Efterklang, Pillow Queens, Yann Tierson as well as being the touring FOH engineer for Broken Records, Goodnight Louisa, The Little Kicks and Maranta.

As a studio engineer and producer he has worked out of Lost Oscillation studios on projects by Stillhound, Discopolis, Luisa Brown, Angus Gunn, Trembler, Passmore as well as assisting mixing on 'Bury Everything' alongside Gareth Jones in Strongroom Studios and assisting mastering alongside Alex Wharton at Abbey Road.

He has developed a core set of skills mentioned below:

Mixing live bands from the Front Of House position
Mixing live bands from the monitor position
Knowledge of a wide range of digital and analogue mixing desks including most models of: Yamaha, Avid, Allen and Heath, Midas, Soundcraft
Extensive knowledge of - microphone placement, different microphone types and uses, signal path workflow, frequency spectrum and balancing, EQ, compression, gates, FX etc
Working as stage manager, making sure everything runs on time and artists are satisfied
Using QLab to trigger cues during theatre, comedy and cabaret performances
Mixing music for bands and solo artists in studios
Tracking and recording solo artists and bands in studios
